Scenic Artistry
The paint shop at Emerson has been my second home in my undergrad. Growing up, I was always crafty and in need of creating: I took painting and ceramics classes at the local art museum, I was a frequent visitor of art supplies stores, and my desk was piled high with personal art projects being worked on in tandem. It felt right to take Scenic Painting with Joe Keener III my first semester of college to have an outlet for this passion within the performing arts. However, never expected this course to open up a world of possibility with scenic artistry.
I was hired by Joe the following year as a scenic artist for Emerson Stage where I have worked ever since. In this position, I am a member of a team who brings to life the scenic designs for the MainStage shows. Joe has been an incredible mentor, teaching me how to do everything from a wood grain treatment to wallpapering. He has also been an active supporter in my pursuit of scenic design, guiding me through using design software (Adobe and Infinity Design) to bring my ideas to life.
I have been lucky enough to branch out scenic designing, constructing, and painting in Emerson student theater and community theater productions, even scenic designing in tandem with directing!
